Export images, videos and 3D links

Render a 3D mockup as PNG or JPEG, record a turntable video, download every social size, save to a game, and share a 3D link or embed.

This article is for the moment your scene looks right and you need it on a store page, a crowdfunding update or a pitch. Export mockup makes the files; Share makes a link people can turn in 3D.

What this page helps you do

  • Export a still image at the size and resolution you need.
  • Record an MP4 or GIF of the scene turning.
  • Download every social media size at once.
  • Save a render to a game's Media tab.
  • Share the scene as a 3D link or embed it on a website.

You'll start from the Export mockup and Share buttons inside a scene (3D Mockups in the sidebar, then open a scene).

Before you start

  • Beta, rolling out to teams. If 3D Mockups is missing from your sidebar, your team is not in the rollout yet.
  • Plan: Pathfinder plan and up. Adventurer teams see "3D Mockups are a Pathfinder plan feature" with Upgrade to Pathfinder. (Virtual Table AI is Oracle and LaunchBoom only, 50 builds per team per day.)
  • Roles: Collaborators cannot use the Component Designer or 3D Mockups.
  • Sharing needs a saved scene ("Save the scene first, then share it").

Export a still image

Click Export mockup and stay on the Image tab: "Render the scene as an image at the size and resolution you need."

  1. Pick a Format, PNG or JPEG.
  2. Pick a Size, or Custom with a Width (px), and a Resolution in dpi (or a custom dpi).
  3. Set a File name and click Export.

Helpful details

  • Key areas: Transparent background (PNG only: "The shadows stay, over nothing"). JPEG quality for JPEG. Smooth edges renders at twice the size and scales down, so thin edges come out cleaner; it is available up to a maximum pixel size.
  • What you can do: Read the summary before exporting: "2400 × 1600 px, prints 20.3 × 13.5 cm at 300 dpi".
  • Good to know: Rendering runs in your browser. Big sizes take a moment.

Record a video

Switch to the Video tab: "Turn the scene on the table and save it as a video. The camera and the lights stay where they are."

Helpful details

  • Key areas: Format MP4 video ("For Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and your Kickstarter page") or Animated GIF ("Loops on any web page or in an email. Larger files, fewer colours"). Motion Full turn or Swing (keeps the front in view), a Direction (Clockwise or Anticlockwise) and a Length in seconds.
  • What you can do: Click Export video and watch "Rendering frames: 40%".
  • Good to know: Some browsers cannot record an MP4 at large sizes. The message says: "Try a smaller size, the GIF format, or Chrome, Edge or Safari."

Download the social sizes

Switch to Social sizes: "The scene at every size the social networks ask for, in one click."

Helpful details

  • Key areas: Square post (Instagram, Facebook), Portrait post (Instagram feed), Story (Stories, Reels, TikTok) and Landscape (YouTube, X, Kickstarter). Pick the sizes you want and click Download 4 images.
  • What you can do: Every size shows the whole of your frame, with more of the table on its longer sides, so nothing is cut off.
  • Good to know: The files come in one download.

Save a render to a game

In the export and social dialogs, Save to game sits beside the download. Pick the game (prefilled when the scene is linked to one).

Helpful details

  • Key areas: The hint: "Save to game adds the image to the game's Media tab, private until you share it there."
  • What you can do: Open the game's Media tab to find the render, share it to the catalog or press kit from there.
  • Good to know: Several files, such as a social pack, are saved together ("4 files saved to {game}'s media library").

Share a 3D link

Click Share. The Share as a 3D link dialog explains: "Anyone with the link can turn and zoom the scene in their browser. Good for a pitch to a publisher or a crowdfunding update."

  1. Save the scene first.
  2. Turn on Anyone with the link can view.
  3. Click Copy, or Open the link to check it.

Helpful details

  • Key areas: Links are short, on bdsy.cc. Viewers see "Drag to turn the view, scroll or pinch to zoom" and cannot change the scene.
  • What you can do: Copy the Embed on a website code to paste into a crowdfunding page or your own site. The 3D view takes the width it is given and keeps the scene's shape on phones and computers.
  • Good to know: The link shows the scene as last saved; "Save to update it." Turning sharing off breaks the link; turning it on again makes a new one.

Tips & common questions

What resolution do I need for a Kickstarter header? Screens need 72 to 150 dpi; pick a width in pixels that matches the page. Use 300 dpi only for print.

Why is the transparent option greyed out? It is PNG only. Switch Format to PNG.

Can viewers of a 3D link edit anything? No. They can turn and zoom. "They cannot change the scene."

I changed the scene but the link still shows the old one. The link follows the last saved version. Press Save and reload the link.
