Record feedback from paper, email or conversations

Where to put feedback that did not come through a form link: the Feedback and Notes tabs, the Score Board and the Playtesters list.

Last reviewed October 11, 2026

Not every playtester fills in a digital form. Some hand you a sheet of paper, some email a long reply, some tell you over the table. This page shows where that feedback goes in Boardssey so it sits with the session it belongs to.

What this page helps you do

  • Write up spoken, emailed or paper feedback on the playtest.
  • Record the session's facts (players, scores, times, engagement) by hand.
  • Add the people who played to the game's playtester list.
  • Avoid the one-submission-per-browser trap when typing paper forms into the public link.

You'll start from the playtest page (sidebar Playtests, click the game, open the playtest in All Playtests).

Before you start

  • Log the playtest first if it does not exist yet (see Log a playtest session).
  • There is no way to add a response to a feedback form by hand. Form responses only arrive through the public link.

Write the feedback on the playtest

Open the playtest and click the Feedback tab. It is a rich-text editor for your team.

Helpful details

  • Key areas: the Feedback tab for what players told you, the Notes tab for your own observations and anything else.
  • What you can do: type or paste each player's comments. Quote them directly where you can; a direct quote keeps nuance a paraphrase loses. Headings and lists help when you have several players ("Ana", "Ben", "Table 2").
  • Good to know: the page autosaves two seconds after you stop typing. These tabs are never visible to playtesters.

Record the session's facts

Still on the playtest, the Playtest Information tab holds the numbers the dashboard reads.

Helpful details

  • Key areas: Date, Game Version, Player Count, the Game Time fields, the Score Board (name, turn order, score, role, win, new player, your custom fields) and the Overall Engagement Rating.
  • What you can do: type the times from your notes by hand; Overall Time and Playtime are calculated for you. Add a custom field with Manage Fields when you want to track something your paper form asked for every player (a Number field for "Fun 1 to 10", a Yes / No field for "Would play again").
  • Good to know: custom fields show up in the dashboard with average score and win rate per value, so a per-player number from a paper form becomes a chart with no extra work.

Add the players to the playtesters list

Go back to the game's playtests page and open the Playtesters tab. Click Add Playtester, enter the Name and, if you have it, the Email.

Helpful details

  • Key areas: the Add Playtester button and dialog.
  • What you can do: build a contact list of the people who tested in person, ready to Export CSV when you recruit for the next session.
  • Good to know: entries you add show Source: Manual and can be edited later. See Keep a list of your playtesters.

Typing paper forms into the public link

You may be tempted to open your own feedback form link and type each paper sheet in, so the answers land in the responses table with the digital ones. It works, with one catch.

Helpful details

  • Key areas: the public form accepts one submission per browser. After the first sheet, the link shows "Already Submitted".
  • What you can do: open the link in a private (incognito) window for each sheet and close it afterwards, or use a different browser for each one. The name and email fields are required, so enter the player's name and, if the sheet has no email, a placeholder you will recognize.
  • Good to know: each entry also adds the person to the Playtesters tab with Source: Form, which you then cannot edit. If that bothers you, keep paper feedback in the Feedback tab instead.

Capture during, log after

A rhythm that works for in-person sessions.

Helpful details

  • Key areas: the Log Time button on the Playtest Information tab is the one thing worth doing live.
  • What you can do: during the game, press Log Time at each phase change and take rough notes on paper. Right after, while it is fresh, fill in the Score Board and type up the Feedback tab. Ten minutes the same day beats an hour a week later.
  • Good to know: the dashboard updates as soon as the playtest saves, so you can check the Time Analysis section before you leave the table.

Tips & common questions

Can I edit a form response after I typed it in? No. Form responses cannot be edited or deleted one at a time. Double-check before you submit, or keep paper feedback in the Feedback tab where you can edit freely.

Should I enter each playtester separately? In the Feedback tab, one heading per person keeps quotes attributable. On the Score Board, one row per player is required anyway, and it is what the dashboard counts.

Can I attach a photo of the paper form? Not to the playtest. Store the photo in the game's Files or Media tab and mention it in the Notes tab.

Does the playtester get notified when I log their feedback? No. Nothing you type on the playtest page reaches playtesters.
