The command palette is the fastest way around Boardssey. Press one key combination anywhere in the app, type a few letters, and jump straight to a game, a task, a playtest, a project, a sell sheet, a tool or a contact.
What this page helps you do
- Open the command palette from any page.
- Search your whole workspace by name.
- Reopen things you used recently.
- Keep your favorite tools one keystroke away.
You'll start from any page of your team workspace.
Open the palette
Press Cmd+K on a Mac or Ctrl+K on Windows and Linux. Press it again to close.
Helpful details
- Key areas: a dialog with the prompt "Search games, tasks, playtests, projects..." and, below it, your Pinned Tools and Recent items.
- What you can do: use the arrow keys to move through the list and Enter to open the highlighted item, or click it.
- Good to know: there is no button for the palette; the keyboard shortcut is the only way in. The empty palette reminds you: "Press ⌘K to open this menu anytime".
Search your workspace
Start typing. Tools match from the first letter; everything else needs at least two characters.
- Type part of a name, for example
castfor Castle Project. - Results appear grouped under Games, Tasks, Playtests, Projects, Sell Sheets, Tools and Contacts.
- Click a result, or move to it with the arrow keys and press Enter.
Helpful details
- Key areas: each result shows its title and a second line where it helps: a game's status, the project a task belongs to, the game a playtest tested, a contact's email and company.
- What you can do: search the current team only. Switch teams first if the game you want lives elsewhere.
- Good to know: with one character typed you see "Keep typing to search your workspace". With no matches you see "No results found" and a hint to try a different term. The palette shows up to 20 results, most recently updated first.
Recent items and pinned tools
With nothing typed, the palette shows what you opened lately and the tools you pinned.
Helpful details
- Key areas: Recent lists the last ten items you opened through the palette, newest first. Pinned Tools lists the tools you pinned on the Tools page.
- What you can do: pin a tool by opening Tools in the sidebar and clicking the pin on its card. Unpin it the same way.
- Good to know: both lists are saved to your account, so they follow you to another browser or computer. Until you have used the palette, it says "Start typing to search..." and "Pin tools from the Tools page to see them here".
Who sees what in results
Search respects the same access rules as the rest of the app.
Helpful details
- Key areas: Admins and Members search every game, task, playtest, project, sell sheet and contact in the team.
- What you can do: as a Collaborator, you find the games shared with you and their tasks and playtests. Contacts never appear for Collaborators.
- Good to know: the tools from the Tools page appear for everyone, because tools are on every plan (Digital Mockups is the one tool the palette does not list). Features that live outside Tools (Whiteboard, Components, Virtual Table, 3D Mockups) are reached from the sidebar, not the palette.
Other shortcuts worth knowing
A few editors have their own keyboard shortcuts.
Helpful details
- Key areas: in the Component Spec Sheet, Cmd+S / Ctrl+S saves the sheet. In the Component Designer, Ctrl+Shift+, imports a PDF, AI, PSD or SVG file.
- What you can do: on the Whiteboard, Cmd+Z / Ctrl+Z undoes and Cmd+Shift+Z / Ctrl+Shift+Z redoes; each drawing tool shows its key in its tooltip.
- Good to know: the palette shortcut works on every page, including inside those editors.
Tips & common questions
Cmd+K opens my browser's address bar or a different menu. Some browsers and extensions claim the shortcut first. Try clicking inside the Boardssey page once, or check your browser's extension shortcuts.
Can I search inside rules text or notes? No. The palette matches titles and names: games, tasks, playtests, projects, sell sheets, tools and contacts.
Why can't I find a game I know exists? Check which team you are in; the palette searches the current team only. If you are a Collaborator, the game may not be shared with you yet.
Does the palette search archived games? Archived games stay in the team, so they can still show up by name. Open the game to see its archived banner.
