Welcome to Boardssey

A tour of what Boardssey does, screen by screen, from the first game idea to the publisher pitch.

Last reviewed October 11, 2026

Boardssey is a workspace for board game designers. It keeps one game's brief, components, rules, playtests, tasks and pitches in one place, so you stop juggling a dozen separate apps.

This is the full tour. If you would rather start clicking, read Quick start in 5 minutes instead.

What this page helps you do

  • Learn what each item in the sidebar does.
  • Find the small controls at the top and bottom of the sidebar (announcements, notifications, your profile menu).
  • See which features need a higher plan or are still in beta.
  • Pick the right first thing to do today.

You'll start from the sidebar of your team workspace, which is the first thing you see after signing in.

Games: the center of everything

Everything in Boardssey orbits your games. In the sidebar, open Games to see your library, then click a game to open its page.

Helpful details

  • Key areas: the game page has tabs for Game Info, Media, Rules, Components, Outreach, Sell Sheets, Invoices & POs, BGG Forums and Permissions. Teams in the cloud storage beta also see a Files tab.
  • What you can do: the buttons under the game title open its Versions history, its Notes, its Whiteboard page and (on plans with Team Chat) its chat channel. The Permissions tab lets you share one game with a Collaborator without sharing the rest.
  • Good to know: a game can start from almost nothing. Click New game, type a working title and click Create Game. You can also import a game's details from BoardGameGeek in the same dialog. See Create a game.

Catalog: your public shelf

Catalog is a public web page for the games you choose to share. Publishers and players browse it without an account.

Helpful details

  • Key areas: tabs for Shared Games, Design, Pages, Messages, Translations, Stats and Advanced.
  • What you can do: pick which games appear, design the page, add pages such as About us or Contact, and read the messages visitors send you.
  • Good to know: every plan has one catalog. More than one catalog (for different markets or languages) is an Oracle plan feature. See Catalog overview.

Projects and Playtests: plan the work, test the game

Projects holds your task boards and the Milestones timeline. Playtests is where you log sessions and collect feedback.

Helpful details

  • Key areas: in Projects, each project is a board of tasks, optionally linked to a game. In Playtests, each session has its date, players, notes and a feedback form you can share by link.
  • What you can do: create tasks with subtasks, assignees, due dates, comments and repeats; view every task across projects in All Tasks; log playtest feedback yourself or let players fill a form without an account.
  • Good to know: plan limits apply to projects: 10 on Adventurer, 40 on Pathfinder, unlimited on Oracle. Playtests are unlimited on every plan. See Projects hub and Playtest hub.

Whiteboard and Sell Sheets: sketch it, then pitch it

Whiteboard is one shared drawing canvas for the whole team, with up to 100 pages. Sell Sheets is a design editor for one-page publisher pitches.

Helpful details

  • Key areas: the Whiteboard button on a game page opens a whiteboard page named after that game. Sell sheets start from a template and pull your game's data in.
  • What you can do: draw, add shapes, text, sticky notes, images and link cards; work on the board live with teammates. Build a sell sheet and export it as a PDF.
  • Good to know: both are on the Pathfinder and Oracle plans. See Whiteboard overview and Sell sheets.

Prototypes and 3D Mockups (beta)

Prototypes groups two tools: Components, a designer for printable cards, tiles, tokens, boards and boxes that can fill a whole deck from a table of data, and Virtual Table, an online table where you play your prototype with guests. 3D Mockups turns your artwork into 3D renders of boxes, cards and boards.

Helpful details

  • Key areas: the sidebar items carry a Beta badge. The Components library lists your designs; each opens in a full-screen editor.
  • What you can do: design a card once, link it to a data table, export print-and-play sheets, a Tabletop Simulator deck, or a deck for the Virtual Table. In 3D Mockups, compose a scene and export a render or save it to a game's Media tab.
  • Good to know: both are rolling out to teams and need the Pathfinder plan or higher. Collaborators do not get the Component Designer. Teams with 3D Mockups no longer see the older Digital Mockups tool in Tools. See Prototypes overview and 3D Mockups overview.

Team Chat

Team Chat is a chat for your team, with channels for everyone and one channel per game.

Helpful details

  • Key areas: the sidebar item shows an unread badge. Every member is in #general; game channels follow the game's name and include everyone who can see that game.
  • What you can do: reply in threads, react, pin messages, search a channel and @mention teammates (they also get an email). Voice and video rooms live in the same place.
  • Good to know: Team Chat is an Oracle plan feature (also included for LaunchBoom customers). Other plans see an introduction page. See Team Chat.

Tools and Contacts

Tools is a grid of small utilities, each with one job. Contacts is your list of publishers, manufacturers and other people you work with.

Helpful details

  • Key areas: the Tools sidebar group filters by All Tools, Brainstorming, Pre-production, Playtesting, Prototyping and Designing. Each card has a pin so your favorites sit at the top.
  • What you can do: lay out print-and-play cards, build a Tabletop Simulator deck sheet, generate dielines, simulate color blindness, roll dice, keep score, flip a coin and more. In Contacts, link people to the outreach you track per game.
  • Good to know: Tools are on every plan; Contacts are hidden from Collaborators. See Trying out the tools and Contacts overview.

The small controls around the sidebar

A few things sit above and below the main menu.

Helpful details

  • Key areas: at the top, the gift icon next to the logo opens announcements, the roadmap and the ideas board. Below it, the team switcher lists your teams (My Teams) and has Create a Team. The bell shows your notifications: chat mentions, task assignments, outreach reminders and more. Each item has an X to dismiss it.
  • What you can do: at the bottom, the profile menu has Home, Settings, Help Center (opens this site), Theme (Light, Dark, System) and Sign out.
  • Good to know: press Cmd+K (Mac) or Ctrl+K (Windows) anywhere to search games, tasks, playtests, projects, sell sheets, tools and contacts. See Find anything with Cmd/Ctrl+K.

Settings and plans

Settings (from the profile menu) has five tabs: My Account, Team Account, Team Roles, Notifications and Billing.

Helpful details

  • Key areas: My Account holds your name, picture, language, email, password, multi-factor authentication and the apps connected to your account. Team Account and Team Roles are for Admins and the Primary Owner; Billing is for the Primary Owner.
  • What you can do: invite teammates as Admin, Member or Collaborator. Every plan includes unlimited users.
  • Good to know: Boardssey has three plans, Adventurer, Pathfinder and Oracle, each with a 14-day free trial. LaunchBoom and Panda Game Manufacturing customers get free access through a special sign-up link. See Plans and pricing.

Tips & common questions

Where do I start on day one? Create one game, even with just a working title. The rest of the app makes more sense once a game exists. Quick start in 5 minutes walks you through it.

Do I have to use every feature? No. Most designers use three or four areas often and the rest now and then. Start with what you need today.

Does Boardssey email people for me? It emails your teammates about chat mentions, task assignments, task reminders and outreach reminders. It never emails publishers, playtesters or anyone outside your team on your behalf.

Can publishers and playtesters use Boardssey without an account? Yes. Publishers browse your catalog and view shared sell sheets at a public address. Playtesters fill in a feedback form from a shared link.

Where do I see what's new? Click the gift icon at the top of the sidebar. It shows announcements, the roadmap and where to post ideas. See Latest update.
