Task comments

Discuss a task with your team in its Comments tab, and know who gets notified when you post.

Last reviewed October 11, 2026

Comments keep a task's discussion next to the task, so whoever picks up the work later finds the context there. This article covers posting a comment and who hears about it.

What this page helps you do

  • Post a comment on a task.
  • Read the conversation on a task.
  • Know who is notified when someone comments.

You'll start from a task on a project board (Projects in the sidebar, open a project, click a task card, then the Comments tab).

Post a comment

  1. Open a task and click the Comments tab, next to Subtasks.
  2. Type in the box that says "Send a comment".
  3. Click the send button (the paper plane icon) to its right.

Helpful details

  • Key areas: the Comments tab, whose badge shows how many comments the task has, and the text box pinned at the bottom.
  • What you can do: write plain text, up to 5000 characters. Press Enter for a new line. Any web address you paste becomes a clickable link.
  • Good to know: there is no formatting toolbar, no @-mentions, no reactions and no file attachments. Paste a link to a file in your cloud storage instead.

Read the conversation

Comments are listed oldest first, each with the author's name and the time it was posted.

Helpful details

  • Key areas: your own comments sit on the right, labelled You. Other people's sit on the left with their name.
  • What you can do: scroll up for older comments. The time reads like "11 Oct, 14:35".
  • Good to know: a comment from someone who has left the team shows Former member as the author. Comments cannot be edited or deleted once posted, so read before you send.

Who gets notified

Posting a comment sends an in-app notification to everyone assigned to the task, except you.

Helpful details

  • Key areas: the bell in the top bar, where the notification "New comment on task: <name>" appears. Clicking it opens the task on its board.
  • What you can do: assign yourself to a task to be notified about its comments. Turn the category Task activity off in your notification settings if you do not want them.
  • Good to know: Task activity notifications are in-app only; no email is sent. The person who created the task is not notified unless they are an assignee. See Notifications.

Tips & common questions

Can I get someone's attention in a comment? There are no @-mentions. Assign the person to the task and they will be notified of every comment. For a one-off nudge, use Send Reminder in the card's right-click menu, which emails the assignees.

Can I edit or delete a comment? No. Comments are permanent. If you made a mistake, post a correction.

Can people outside my team read comments? No. Comments are part of the task, and only people who can open the project see them.

Can I export the comments on a task? Not directly. Select the text in the Comments tab and copy it.
