Log a playtest from a room, link a game

Link a Virtual Table room to a game, save the session as a playtest, and hand players a feedback form.

Last reviewed October 11, 2026

This article is for hosts who want an online session to count. Log playtest saves who played and for how long under one of your games and gives the players a feedback form while the game is fresh.

What this page helps you do

  • Link a room to a game.
  • Save a session as a playtest with players and length.
  • Create a feedback form and put a Give feedback button on the table.
  • Find the playtest afterwards.

You'll start from the Link a game and Log playtest buttons inside a room (Prototypes > Virtual Table, then Open a room).

Before you start

  • Beta, rolling out to teams. If Prototypes is missing from your sidebar, your team is not in the rollout yet.
  • Plan: Pathfinder plan and up. Automate with AI is Oracle and LaunchBoom only, 50 builds per team per day.
  • Roles: Collaborators cannot use the Component Designer or 3D Mockups. Guests cannot link a game or log a playtest; a member does it.
  • You need at least one game in your team. The dialog says "You need a game to log a playtest for. Create one first." and offers Go to games.

Link the room to a game

Click Link a game. Pick the Game and click Save.

Helpful details

  • Key areas: The dialog explains: "Playtests you log here go under it, and the AI builder can read its rules."
  • What you can do: Change the link later from the same button, which now reads "Linked game: {game}. Change it". Unlink removes it.
  • Good to know: The link is also what lets Automate with AI use the game's rules (see Buttons and automations).

Log the playtest

Click Log playtest. The dialog, "Log this session as a playtest", asks for four things.

  1. Game. Prefilled from the linked game, or pick one.
  2. Players. One name per line, prefilled from the seats and from who is connected. Edit the list as you like.
  3. Length (minutes).
  4. Create a feedback form. Leave it on to get a short form the players can fill in without an account.

Click Save playtest.

Helpful details

  • Key areas: The playtest is titled "{room} (virtual table)" and appears under the game's playtests.
  • What you can do: Log more than one session from the same room; each one is its own playtest.
  • Good to know: If the player list cannot be saved, the dialog says so and you can add the players on the playtest page.

Share the feedback form

After saving, the dialog reads "Playtest saved" and shows the Feedback form link with a QR code.

Helpful details

  • Key areas: Copy link copies the form address. Put a feedback button on the table adds a Give feedback button that everyone at the table, guests included, can press to open the form. Open the playtest jumps to the playtest page.
  • What you can do: Players point a phone at the QR code while they are still in the room.
  • Good to know: The default form asks how much fun they had, how clear the rules were, how the length felt, whether they would play again, what they enjoyed most and what they would change. Edit the questions afterwards from the playtest (see Feedback forms).

Find the results

Open the game and its playtests, or click Open the playtest right after saving. Responses land on the playtest as they arrive.

Helpful details

  • Key areas: The playtest page shows the players, the length and the feedback.
  • What you can do: Compare sessions of the same game over time.
  • Good to know: The room keeps working as before; logging does not reset the table.

Tips & common questions

Do guests need an account to answer the form? No. The form is public by link. It asks for a name and an optional email.

I forgot to log the session. Can I do it later? Yes. Log playtest works any time. Type the players and length by hand; the seats may be empty by then.

Can I log a session without a feedback form? Yes. Untick Create a feedback form before saving.

Where did the Give feedback button go? It is a button widget on the table. Members can move or delete it in edit mode like any other.
