Whiteboard overview
One shared drawing canvas per team, with pages for each game. What the Whiteboard does, who sees it, and where to go next.
Last reviewed October 11, 2026
The Whiteboard is a shared drawing canvas for your team: sketch a card layout, map a game's economy, pin reference art, or run a remote design session with a co-designer. Your team has one board, split into pages, and everyone on the team works on it live.
What this page helps you do
- Open the Whiteboard from the sidebar or from a game.
- Understand the one-board, many-pages model before you start.
- Know what the canvas can and cannot do.
- Find the article for the task you have in mind.
You'll start from Whiteboard in the sidebar.
Before you start
- The Whiteboard is on the Pathfinder and Oracle plans (and for LaunchBoom and Panda customers). Adventurer teams see an introduction page instead. See Plans and pricing.
- It runs in the browser. Nothing to install; a tablet with a stylus works too.
- Admins and Members see and edit every page. Collaborators see only the pages of games shared with them.
Open the Whiteboard
In the sidebar, click Whiteboard. The board opens on the page you last used, with a grid showing by default.
Helpful details
- Key areas: the drawing toolbar at the bottom, the style panel on the right, the page menu and the main menu in the top-left corner, and the avatars of teammates who are on the board in the top-right corner.
- What you can do: from a game's page, click the Whiteboard button under the game title. It opens the same team board; create a page with the game's exact name so that game's sketches have a home (see Pages and Collaborators).
- Good to know: your team has exactly one board. "The whiteboard for Castle Project" is a page on it, not a separate board.
What you can do on the canvas
The canvas is infinite: zoom out for the big picture, zoom in for detail.
Helpful details
- Key areas: draw with a pen or highlighter; add text, sticky notes, arrows, lines and a wide set of shapes; group things inside labeled frames.
- What you can do: drop in images and videos, paste a link to get a preview card, and work together live with named cursors. Export a page or a selection as SVG or PNG, or print it.
- Good to know: text has fonts, sizes, alignment and colors, but no bold or italic. There is no PDF export and no public share link; everyone who sees the board signs in to your team. For production artwork, keep your illustration tools and import the results.
Pages
Pages split the board by topic or by game. The team board holds up to 100 pages.
Helpful details
- Key areas: the page menu in the top-left corner lists every page and lets you add, rename, duplicate, reorder and delete them.
- What you can do: keep one page per game (named exactly like the game) plus pages for studio-wide work: convention plans, a scratch board, a moodboard.
- Good to know: the page name does the access work. A Collaborator sees a page only if its name matches a game they were given access to. See Pages and Collaborators.
Where to go next
- Get oriented in the toolbar: Drawing, writing, and shapes.
- Organize pages and understand who sees what: Pages and Collaborators.
- Add visuals and reference links: Adding images and links.
- Get a file out: Exporting from the whiteboard.
Tips & common questions
I see "Want Realtime Visual Collaboration?" instead of a canvas. Your team is on the Adventurer plan. Click Upgrade to Unlock to go to Billing and move to Pathfinder or Oracle. If the page sends you to Billing instead, the team's subscription has lapsed.
Can I use the Whiteboard on a tablet? Yes, in the browser. A stylus makes drawing much nicer than a finger; pinch to zoom and two-finger drag to pan.
Is the Whiteboard the same as the Component Designer? No. The Whiteboard (built on tldraw) is a free-form canvas for thinking. The Component Designer under Prototypes is a layout tool for printable cards and parts. Different jobs.
Can a publisher view my whiteboard? Not live. Export the page or frame as a PNG or SVG and send the file. See Exporting from the whiteboard.
Where does the board live, and what if I copy a game to another team? The board belongs to the team. Copy Game to Another Team does not copy whiteboard pages; copy and paste the shapes yourself if you need them in the other team.
