If you're handing your studio off, leaving a team, or just want someone else to manage billing, you can transfer ownership of a Boardssey team workspace to another member.
There's exactly one Owner per team, so transferring ownership swaps the current Owner with the new one, the old Owner becomes an Admin (or whatever role you set them to next).
What this page helps you do
Hand the team's ownership over to someone else.
Move billing responsibility along with it.
Understand what changes (and doesn't) for both people involved.
Before you start
The new Owner must already be a member of the team. If they're not, invite them first as a Member or Admin (see Inviting and managing team members).
The new Owner inherits the billing relationship. Their card on file will be charged for future invoices. Make sure they've added a payment method to the team after transfer.
Only the current Owner can transfer ownership. Admins can't initiate this.
1. Open team settings
In the sidebar, click your team name (bottom-left), then Settings. Make sure the General tab is selected (URL ends in /home/settings#general).
2. Find Transfer ownership
Scroll to the Danger zone (or Advanced) section near the bottom of the page. Click Transfer ownership.
A dialog opens listing the team's members. Pick the one you want to make the new Owner.
3. Confirm the transfer
Boardssey will ask you to confirm, typically by typing the new Owner's name or the team's name into a field. This is to prevent accidents.
You may also be asked for your password and a current MFA code (if MFA is on). That's a guard against drive-by takeovers.
Click Transfer. The change applies immediately:
The new Owner is now the team's Owner.
You become an Admin by default. If you want to leave the team entirely, ask the new Owner (or another Admin) to remove you, or just remove yourself from your Members list if that's an option.
The new Owner now controls billing, can change plans, and can delete the team.
What changes for billing
The team's subscription stays active. The next invoice will be charged to whatever payment method the new Owner has on file. If they haven't set one up yet, they'll need to do that immediately to avoid the team lapsing.
The new Owner should:
Open the Billing Portal (see Update or cancel your subscription).
Add a payment method if they don't have one.
Confirm the plan and billing frequency are still what the team wants.
If the team is on a special program (LaunchBoom, Panda), check whether the program is tied to your relationship with the partner or to the team itself. The partner can clarify.
What stays the same
Almost everything:
All games, projects, playtests, sell sheets, contacts, pitches.
The team workspace name, slug, logo.
All members and their roles (besides Owner β Admin swap).
The team's plan and feature access.
Public catalog URL and settings.
Tips & common questions
Can I transfer ownership and immediately leave the team? Yes. After transfer, ask the new Owner (or any Admin) to remove you from the Members list. Or have them give you Member-level access if you still want visibility but not management responsibility.
What if I leave the team without transferring? You can't, if you're the Owner. Boardssey requires every team to have an Owner. You'd need to either transfer ownership first, or delete the team (see Deleting a team workspace).
Can I transfer ownership to a Collaborator? Yes, promote them to Member or Admin first, then transfer. The transfer step itself can target any current member.
Does the new Owner inherit my billing history and invoices? Past invoices stay associated with the team. The Stripe billing portal shows them to whoever's the current Owner, so the new Owner can see your history of payments. If you need a personal copy of an invoice from before the transfer, download it before you hand off.
I'm transferring to my co-founder, anything special? Just walk through the steps together: you transfer, they confirm a payment method, then they can promote you back to Admin (which is the default after transfer anyway).
Can I undo a transfer? Only if the new Owner cooperates. They can transfer ownership back to you the same way you transferred it to them. If they refuse, Boardssey can't reverse ownership without consent from the new Owner.
