Delete your personal account

How to permanently delete your Boardssey personal account, what gets removed, and what owners must do first.

Deleting your personal account removes you from Boardssey: your sign-in, your profile, your notification preferences, and your access to any team workspaces. This page walks through the process and what happens to your data.

This is permanent. Read carefully before you click.

What this page helps you do

  • Understand what deletion does (and doesn't) remove.

  • Handle ownership of any teams you own before you delete.

  • Cancel your active subscription, if any.

  • Complete the deletion.

Before you start: two things to handle first

1. If you own a team workspace

A team workspace must always have exactly one Owner. If you delete your personal account while you're the Owner of a team, the team would be orphaned. Boardssey won't let you delete a personal account that still owns a team.

You have two options:

  • Transfer ownership to another member of the team. See Transferring ownership. After transfer, the team continues normally and you can leave it.

  • Delete the team entirely. See Deleting a team workspace. This permanently removes the team, all its games, projects, playtests, contacts, and data.

Repeat for every team you own.

2. If you have an active subscription

Cancel your subscription before deleting your personal account if you don't want to be charged again. See Update or cancel your subscription.

If a subscription is on a team you're transferring ownership of, the new Owner inherits it.

Open your personal settings

In the sidebar, click your name (bottom-left), then Settings. Make sure the User tab is selected (the URL ends in /home/settings#user).

Scroll to the Delete account section at the bottom of the page.

Confirm the deletion

Click Delete account. Boardssey will ask you to confirm, usually by typing your email address or the word DELETE into a field. This is to prevent accidental clicks.

You may also be asked to enter your password and a current MFA code (if MFA is on). This protects against someone deleting your account from a session you left open.

Click Delete to finish.

What gets removed

Once you confirm:

  • Your personal account: gone, can't be recovered.

  • Your sign-in credentials (email, password, social logins, MFA secrets), deleted from our systems.

  • Your profile (name, photo, role, language, notification preferences), deleted.

  • Your memberships in any team workspaces: you're removed from each team's member list.

  • Your in-app notifications history: deleted.

What stays

Some things stay even after your personal account is gone:

  • Games, projects, playtests, sell sheets, pitches, contacts that live in team workspaces you were a member of. Those belong to the team, not to you, and they remain with the team.

  • Tasks you created or were assigned: with attribution kept as your former display name.

  • Past invoices for any team you owned (if a team still exists with a subscription, its billing history is preserved).

  • Audit logs of significant actions for compliance and debugging, retained per our privacy policy.

Tips & common questions

Can I get my account back after deleting? No. Deletion is permanent. If you change your mind later, you can sign up again with the same email, but it's a brand-new account; nothing carries over.

Can I delete my account if I'm in someone else's team as a Member? Yes. You'll be removed from that team's members list, and the team Owner will see you disappear from their roster. The team itself isn't affected.

Can I export my data before deleting? There's no one-click export today. If you need a copy of your games, the closest options are: download each game's media, copy rules and notes manually, or export your contacts list from the Contacts area. We're tracking a full personal-data export on the roadmap.

I'm being charged for a subscription I forgot to cancel, does deleting fix that? No. Deletion of your personal account doesn't cancel a team's subscription. Cancel the subscription first (see Update or cancel your subscription), then delete the personal account.

What if I'm an Owner of a team and there's no one to transfer ownership to? You'll need to delete the team itself. See Deleting a team workspace. That ends the subscription and removes the team's data.

Does deleting my account affect playtests I shared with playtesters? External playtesters accessing your shared feedback forms wouldn't notice your account deletion, the form lives with the playtest, which lives with the team. If the team still exists (after ownership transfer), nothing changes for them.
