Customizing Your Profile

Update your name, photo, language, theme, and the dashboard preferences that follow you across every team.

Your profile is the part of your Boardssey account that's you, not a team, your name, photo, language, theme, and a few small dashboard preferences. These follow you everywhere, including across team workspaces you're invited to.

This page walks through what you can change and where to find it.

What this page helps you do

  • Update your display name, photo, and contact email.

  • Pick a language and switch between light and dark themes.

  • Set a few small dashboard preferences (BGG Hotness, etc.).

Open your personal settings

In the sidebar, click your name (bottom-left), then Settings. The User tab is the one for personal settings, the URL ends in /home/settings#user. Don't confuse it with the General tab, which controls team settings.

Change your name and photo

In the Profile section:

  • Display name: the name shown to teammates, on tasks you create, in playtest invites, and in your public catalog if you turn it on.

  • Profile photo: click the avatar to upload an image. Square images crop best.

Changes save automatically, or click Save at the bottom of the section if you see a save button.

Pick a language

Boardssey is available in several languages. Your language choice affects the app UI, not your game data, game names, descriptions, and rules stay in whatever language you typed them in.

Switch themes

Toggle between Light, Dark, and System (follows your OS). The choice is per-device, it's stored in your browser, not on your account, so each browser remembers its own preference.

Dashboard preferences

A small set of preferences live in Settings β†’ User that affect what shows up on your home dashboard:

  • BGG Hotness: toggle the BoardGameGeek Hotness widget on or off. When on, your dashboard shows the top trending games on BGG; when off, that space is reclaimed for other widgets.

Other team-wide preferences (logo, workspace name) live in Team settings, not here.

What's not here

A few things that feel like "profile" actually live elsewhere:

Together those four cover everything else under the User tab.

Tips & common questions

Will my teammates see when I update my profile? Your new display name and photo appear next time they load the app. There's no separate notification.

Can different teams see different versions of my profile? No, your profile is one thing across every team. If you need different display names per team, that's not supported today.

Does my profile show on my public catalog? Your public catalog is per team, not per personal account. Your profile name and photo aren't displayed publicly there unless you put them in the catalog's own customization fields. See Showing your games on your public catalog.

Why doesn't my photo update everywhere? Sometimes a browser caches old avatar images. Refresh the page or sign out and back in if the new photo isn't showing.
