Connecting BoardGameGeek

Link a game to its BGG page, see the BGG forum inside Boardssey, and watch BGG Hotness on your dashboard.

Boardssey integrates with BoardGameGeek (BGG) in three small but useful ways: link a game to its BGG page, view BGG forum threads inside the app, and watch the BGG Hotness on your dashboard.

This page covers all three.

What this page helps you do

  • Add a BGG link to a specific game.

  • Use the BGG link to unlock the BGG Forum tab.

  • Toggle BGG Hotness on your dashboard.

Add a BGG link to a game

If your game already has a BGG page (most games do, once they hit playtesting):

  1. Open the game's page.

  2. On the Game info tab, find the BGG Link field.

  3. Paste the URL of the game's BGG page (e.g. https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/123456/your-game).

  4. Click Save game.

The link is now part of the game's record. Two things happen:

  • The BGG Forum tab on the game's page becomes useful, it lists live forum threads for the game. See BGG forum.

  • Your public catalog game page (if enabled) links out to BGG so visitors can hop to the community page.

BGG Hotness on your dashboard

The BGG Hotness is BGG's list of currently-trending games, useful for inspiration, market awareness, or just keeping a pulse on what publishers and reviewers are talking about.

In Settings β†’ User β†’ Profile, find the BGG Hotness toggle. When on, your Boardssey dashboard shows the top trending games on BGG. When off, the widget is hidden.

This is a per-user setting; each team member toggles their own.

What about BGG accounts and login?

Boardssey doesn't sign in to BGG on your behalf. We pull public BGG data only, forum threads, the Hotness, basic game info via the link. You don't connect your BGG account; there's nothing to authorize.

If you want to post to BGG, sign in there directly, the BGG Forum tab in Boardssey is read-only.

Tips & common questions

My BGG link doesn't validate / forum is empty. Make sure you pasted the full URL including https://. The URL should look like https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/<id>/<slug> for an existing game on BGG.

The game isn't on BGG yet, should I make a placeholder? Most prototypes don't go on BGG until they're closer to publishing. You can leave the BGG Link blank until the game has a real BGG page. The BGG Forum tab will be empty in the meantime.

Can I show BGG Hotness specific to a region or category? Today the Hotness widget shows BGG's main hotness list. Region-specific or category-filtered views are not supported.

Will Boardssey scrape my BGG forum reply history? No, we only display the public forum threads for a game. We don't fetch your BGG account activity.

My BGG link points to a different page now (BGG renamed the slug). BGG redirects old slugs to new ones automatically, so your link should keep working. If it doesn't, update the URL.
