Google Calendar integration

Updated over 2 weeks ago

You can connect your Google Calendar to Boardssey so your personal events (meetings, reminders, appointments) appear alongside your project tasks on the calendar.
The integration is optional, uses your own Google account, and is read-only Boardssey only displays your events; it does not create or edit anything in Google Calendar. You can connect and manage the integration from the project calendar or from Settings.

What this helps you do

  • See your Google Calendar events next to your project tasks on the project calendar (week, month, or year view).

  • Choose which Google calendars to show (e.g. only your main calendar, or several).

  • Connect or disconnect from either the project calendar (Manage CalendarsManage Google Calendars) or from SettingsCalendar Settings.

  • Control external events—in Settings you can turn Show Industry Events on or off to control visibility of industry/external calendar events.

  • Use one connection everywhere—once connected, your Google events appear on the calendar in any project you open; the same connection is used whether you set it up from the calendar or from Settings.

How the integration works

  • Your account only. You connect your own Google account. Only your Google Calendar events are shown; no one else’s calendars or events are visible in Boardssey.

  • Read-only. Boardssey only reads your calendar to display events. It does not create, edit, or delete events in Google Calendar.

  • Where events appear. Your Google events show on the project calendar (inside a project → Calendar). The project calendar already shows only your tasks for that project; adding Google simply overlays your personal events on the same view.

  • One connection per user. The connection is tied to your Boardssey account. You connect once; then you can choose which Google calendars to show and toggle them on or off from the calendar or from Settings.

  • Industry / external events. In SettingsCalendar Settings you’ll see Show Industry Events. When this is on, industry or external calendar events (if provided by the app) can be shown; turn it off to hide them.

Where you can connect and manage it

You can connect and manage Google Calendar in two places:

  1. From the project calendar
Open a project → CalendarManage CalendarsManage Google Calendars. From there you can connect (if not already), see your Google calendars, and use the switches to show or hide each calendar on the Boardssey calendar.

  2. From Settings
Go to Settings (from your account menu or personal dashboard). Find the Calendar Settings card. The description says: “Manage your Google Calendar integration and external event visibility.” There you’ll see Show Industry Events and the Google Calendar section with Connect Google Calendar (or, if already connected, a list of your calendars with switches and Disconnect Google Calendar).

Changes you make in either place apply everywhere—same connection, same list of calendars, same visibility.

Connecting from the project calendar

When Google isn’t connected yet

Connect your Google Calendar to view your personal events

If Google Calendar isn’t connected yet, you’ll see a message like “Connect your Google Calendar to view your personal events” and a Connect Google Calendar button. Click it to start the connection.

Helpful details

  • Key areas on the screen: The message explains that connecting lets you view your personal events. The Connect Google Calendar button starts the process.

  • What you can do here: Click Connect Google Calendar to sign in with Google and allow Boardssey to read your calendar. You’ll be redirected to Google and then back to Boardssey.

  • Good to know: The same Connect Google Calendar option is available in SettingsCalendar Settings under the Google Calendar section. Connecting from either place sets up the integration for your account.

Open Manage Calendars and Manage Google Calendars

Manage Calendars menu with Manage Google Calendars

From the project calendar, use Manage Calendars to open the options. Manage Google Calendars takes you to the screen where you connect Google (if needed) and choose which Google calendars to show on the Boardssey calendar.

Helpful details

  • Key areas on the screen: The Manage Calendars control is in the calendar header or toolbar. Clicking it reveals Manage Google Calendars and toggles for project tasks and Google calendars.

  • What you can do here: Click Manage Google Calendars to connect your account or to turn specific Google calendars on or off. The same calendars and switches are available in SettingsCalendar Settings.

  • Good to know: Your project tasks and your Google events are separate: you can show or hide each set with the switches. Only calendars you turn on will appear on the calendar view.

Click Connect Google Calendar

Connect Google Calendar button

Click Connect Google Calendar to open Google’s sign-in and permission screen. You’ll sign in with your Google account and then choose Allow so Boardssey can display your calendar events.

Helpful details

  • Key areas on the screen: The Connect Google Calendar button is the main action. After you click it, you leave Boardssey briefly for Google’s sign-in.

  • What you can do here: Complete the Google sign-in and grant access. After that, you’ll return to Boardssey (either to the calendar or to Settings, depending on where you started). Your Google calendars will then be available to select under Manage Google Calendars or in SettingsCalendar Settings.

  • Good to know: Boardssey only requests read-only access to your calendar. It does not create or edit events in Google Calendar.

Signing in with Google and allowing access

Google’s sign-in screen

Sign in with Google

Google’s screen asks you to sign in. Choose Sign in with Google and pick the Google account you use for your personal calendar. On the next screen, click Allow so Boardssey can read your calendar events.

Helpful details

  • Key areas on the screen: This is Google’s sign-in and consent screen, not Boardssey. You may see Sign in with Google, account choices, and later an Allow button.

  • What you can do here: Sign in with the correct Google account, then click Allow to grant read-only access to your calendar.

  • Good to know: If you have multiple Google accounts, use the one that has the calendar you want to see in Boardssey. You can revoke access later in your Google account settings (e.g. Security → Third-party access) if you change your mind.

After you’re connected

Choosing which Google calendars to show

Manage Google Calendars after connection with toggles

Once Google is connected, Manage Google Calendars (and SettingsCalendar Settings) shows your Google calendars with a switch for each. Turn the switch on for any calendar you want to see on the Boardssey calendar, and off for ones you want to hide.

Helpful details

  • Key areas on the screen: The list includes your project tasks (if you’re on the calendar) and your Google calendars. Each row has a switch.

  • What you can do here: Toggle each calendar on or off. Only calendars with the switch on appear on the main calendar view. Your choices are saved and apply whether you’re on the project calendar or in Settings.

  • Good to know: You can change these anytime from the calendar (Manage CalendarsManage Google Calendars) or from SettingsCalendar Settings. Disconnecting or revoking access in Google will stop events from showing until you connect again.

Toggle switches for each calendar

Toggle switches for calendars

On the Manage Google Calendars screen you’ll see a list of calendars (e.g. project tasks and your Google calendars). Use the switch next to each one to show or hide it on the main calendar view.

Helpful details

  • Key areas on the screen: Each calendar has a label and a switch. When the switch is on, that calendar’s events or tasks appear on the calendar view.

  • What you can do here: Toggle each calendar on or off. You can hide project tasks or specific Google calendars if you want a simpler view. In Settings, the same list appears under Google Calendar with Select calendars to sync and a Disconnect Google Calendar button.

  • Good to know: Changes apply immediately and are shared between the calendar and Settings. If you don’t see a calendar in the list, make sure you’ve connected Google and that the calendar exists in your Google account.

Managing from Settings

Calendar Settings in Settings gives you the same Google Calendar connection and calendar list as the project calendar.

  • Open Settings from your account menu or personal dashboard (e.g. Settings under My Account).

  • Find the Calendar Settings card. The description is: “Manage your Google Calendar integration and external event visibility.”

  • Show Industry Events—a switch that controls whether industry or external calendar events (if any) are shown.

  • Google Calendar—a heading under which you’ll see:

    • Connect Google Calendar if you’re not connected yet. Click it to go through the same Google sign-in and Allow flow.

    • If you’re already connected: a list of your Google calendars with a switch for each (same as Manage Google Calendars on the calendar), and Disconnect Google Calendar at the bottom.

  • Clicking Disconnect Google Calendar opens a confirmation: “Disconnect Google Calendar?” with the message “Are you sure you want to disconnect your Google Calendar? You will need to reconnect to sync your calendar events again.” Confirm to disconnect; your Google events will stop showing until you connect again.

Everything you do here (connect, choose calendars, disconnect) is the same as doing it from the project calendar—one connection, one set of options.

Disconnecting Google Calendar

You can disconnect in either place:

  • From the project calendar: Manage CalendarsManage Google Calendars. If there is a disconnect or revoke option there, use it (exact placement may vary).

  • From Settings: SettingsCalendar SettingsDisconnect Google Calendar. Confirm in the dialog (“Disconnect Google Calendar?”).

You can also revoke Boardssey’s access in your Google account: Google Account → Security → Third-party access (or similar). After you revoke, Boardssey will no longer show your Google events until you connect again.

Tips & common questions

I connected from the calendar. Do I need to connect again in Settings?
No. The connection is per account. Once connected from the calendar or Settings, you’re connected everywhere. Use either place to change which calendars show or to disconnect.

Where do my Google events appear?
Only on the project calendar: open a project → Calendar. They appear next to your project tasks (which are only the tasks assigned to you). They do not appear on team-wide or “All Tasks” views.

Can Boardssey create or edit events in Google Calendar?
No. The integration is read-only. Boardssey only displays your existing Google Calendar events.

I have several Google calendars. How do I choose which ones show?
After connecting, open Manage Google Calendars (from the calendar) or Calendar Settings (in Settings). Each Google calendar has a switch; turn on the ones you want to see on the Boardssey calendar.

What is “Show Industry Events” in Settings?
That switch controls whether industry or external calendar events (if provided by the app) are shown. It does not control your personal Google calendars; those are controlled by the Google Calendar section and the calendar switches.

How do I disconnect?
Use Disconnect Google Calendar in SettingsCalendar Settings and confirm. You can also revoke access in your Google account (Security → Third-party access). After that, Boardssey will stop showing your Google events until you connect again.
