Connect Claude and other AI assistants
Connect Claude or another AI assistant to Boardssey, choose what it may read or change, and disconnect it from Apps with access.
Last reviewed October 11, 2026
Boardssey has a connector for Claude and other AI assistants: you can ask the assistant about your games and playtests, and, if you allow it, let it create and edit them for you. This page is for anyone who wants to connect an assistant safely.
What this page helps you do
- Add Boardssey as a connector in Claude or another assistant.
- Decide what the assistant may read and change.
- See which apps are connected and disconnect one.
- Avoid overwriting an AI edit in an open editor.
You'll start in your assistant's connector settings, then on Boardssey's consent screen.
Before you start
- The assistant uses your access. It sees exactly the teams, games and playtests you can see, and nothing more.
- Connections are personal. Each teammate connects their own assistant.
Add the connector
In Claude (or another assistant that supports remote connectors), add a custom connector with the address https://app.boardssey.com/api/mcp. The assistant opens Boardssey, where you sign in if needed.
Helpful details
- Key areas: your assistant's connector or integration settings.
- What you can do: connect from the web, desktop or mobile version of the assistant; the consent screen is the same.
- Good to know: no API key is involved. Boardssey signs the assistant in through your own account.
Review the consent screen
Boardssey shows Connect {app} to Boardssey: "{app} wants to access your Boardssey account ({email})." Read the list under This lets {app}:, set the two checkboxes, then click Allow access or Deny.
Helpful details
- Key areas: two permissions are always granted: See the workspaces you belong to and Read the games and playtests you can see in those workspaces. Two checkboxes add more: Allow {app} to make changes ("Create and edit the data you share with it: games, versions and playtests, plus contacts, outreach and invoices if you include them. Leave this off to connect read only.") and Include contacts, outreach and invoices ("{app} will see the people in your contacts (names, emails, phone numbers), the outreach you track for your games, and your invoices and purchase orders.").
- What you can do: leave both boxes off for a read-only connection about games and playtests. The screen then says "It cannot create, change or delete anything."
- Good to know: nothing the assistant does can delete anything, even with changes allowed; the screen says "It cannot delete anything." The notice "After you decide, you will be sent back to {host}" names where you go next. If you see Boardssey has not verified this app, continue only if you started the connection yourself and recognize the address.
What the assistant can do
With reading only, the assistant can list your workspaces, list and search games, open a game with its components, and list and open playtests.
With Allow {app} to make changes, it can also create games, update their details, add versions, write rules and notes, add and update components and their quotes, and create and update playtests.
With Include contacts, outreach and invoices, it can read your contacts, outreach and invoices and purchase orders, and, with changes allowed, add and update them too (including the status of an invoice).
Helpful details
- Key areas: everything runs with your own permissions. A Collaborator's assistant sees only the games the Collaborator was granted.
- What you can do: ask for summaries of playtest feedback, a list of games by status, or a draft of rules changes.
- Good to know: there is no delete action of any kind. Deleting stays a manual job in Boardssey.
After an AI edit, reload the game
When the assistant changes rules, notes or components, reload that game in Boardssey if you have it open. An open editor keeps its own copy and saves it over the assistant's change the next time you type.
Helpful details
- Key areas: the game page's Rules, Notes and Components tabs.
- What you can do: ask the assistant to read the current text before it adds to it; update actions replace the fields they send.
- Good to know: a good assistant confirms with you before overwriting text you wrote.
See and disconnect connected apps
Open your profile menu at the bottom of the sidebar, choose Settings, and on My Account scroll to Apps with access to Boardssey ("Apps you connected to your Boardssey data, such as Claude."). Click Disconnect on any app to end its access right away.
Helpful details
- Key areas: each app shows a badge, Read only or Can edit, a second badge Contacts, outreach, invoices when you included them, Connected on {date} and Last used on {date} (or Not used yet).
- What you can do: check Last used on to spot an app you no longer use.
- Good to know: to change what an app may do, disconnect it and connect again with different checkboxes. The card reads "No apps connected yet." until you connect one.
Tips & common questions
Which assistants work? Claude, and any assistant that can add a remote connector by address. Boardssey marks Claude as verified; others show the "not verified" notice, which is fine if you started the connection yourself.
Can the assistant see my teammates' private data? It sees what you can see, nothing more. Contacts, outreach and invoices stay hidden unless you tick Include contacts, outreach and invoices.
Can it delete a game or a playtest? No. There is no delete action in the connector.
My assistant says it is not authorized anymore. Its access was disconnected or expired. Connect it again from the assistant; Boardssey shows the consent screen once more.
Does connecting cost anything or need a plan? No. The connector is part of your account on every plan.
