The Tools hub
Find, pin and open Boardssey's small tools from the Tools page, the dashboard and the command palette.
Last reviewed October 11, 2026
The Tools page gathers Boardssey's small, single-job tools in one place: print-and-play layouts, dielines, spec sheets, dice, timers and more. This article shows you how the page is organised and the fastest ways to reach a tool.
What this page helps you do
- Browse every tool and filter the list by category.
- Pin the tools you use most so they stay at the top.
- Open a tool from the dashboard or the command palette without visiting the Tools page.
- Understand the AI, NEW and BETA badges, and why one or two tools may be missing from your list.
- Save a tool's output straight into a game's Media tab.
You'll start from Tools in the sidebar.
Before you start
- Tools are included on every plan, as long as the team's subscription or trial is active. If the subscription has lapsed, the tool pages send you to billing.
- Anyone who can open the team workspace can open the Tools page.
Open the Tools page
In the sidebar, click Tools. The group expands to show All Tools, Brainstorming, Pre-production, Playtesting, Prototyping and Designing. Click All Tools to see everything, or a category to open the page already filtered.
Helpful details
- Key areas: a Search tools.. box, a row of category chips (the same six as the sidebar), and a grid of tool cards sorted alphabetically.
- What you can do: type part of a tool's name or description to filter the grid, or click a chip. The chip also changes the page address, so you can bookmark a filtered view.
- Good to know: the Brainstorming chip has no tools in it at the moment. Picking it shows an empty grid. A "No tools found" message appears only when a search term has no match.
Pin your favourite tools
Hover over a tool card and click the pin icon in its corner (on a touch screen the pin is always visible). Pinned tools move to a Pinned Tools section at the top of the page.
Helpful details
- Key areas: the pin button sits beside the card, so clicking it never opens the tool.
- What you can do: click the pin again to unpin. Pinned tools are never hidden by a search or a category chip.
- Good to know: pins are saved to your account, so they follow you across browsers and devices. Each team member has their own pins.
Read the badges
Some cards carry a small label in the corner.
Helpful details
- Key areas: NEW marks a tool added recently. BETA marks a tool that is still changing (today, Digital Mockups). AI marks a tool that generates content with AI (none are on the list right now).
- What you can do: nothing to set up. The badges are information only.
- Good to know: every tool, badged or not, is included in your plan.
Open a tool from the dashboard
The team dashboard has a row of tool shortcuts above the cards.
Helpful details
- Key areas: a Recently used group with the tools you opened last, and a Popular tools group that fills the row to five shortcuts with the tools used most across Boardssey (P&P Cards Layout, Dieline Templates, Component Spec Sheet, Color Blindness Simulator, TTS Deck Editor, Rounded Corners, Variables Distribution). An All tools link sits at the end of the row.
- What you can do: click a shortcut to open the tool. Your recent list updates each time you open a tool.
- Good to know: the row is hidden on phones, where the sidebar's Tools entry does the same job.
Open a tool from anywhere with the command palette
Press Ctrl+K (Windows) or Cmd+K (Mac) on any page and start typing a tool's name.
Helpful details
- Key areas: the palette lists every tool on the Tools page under its own heading, next to your games, projects and other records.
- What you can do: type a few letters ("dice", "spec", "pnp") and press Enter to open the tool.
- Good to know: this is the quickest route when you are deep in a game page and need a die roll or a timer.
Save a tool's output to a game
Some tools can put their result in a game's Media tab instead of your downloads folder.
Helpful details
- Key areas: in P&P Cards Layout, the Generate PDF dialog has a Game media library picker and a Save to game button beside Download PDF. 3D Mockups (a separate sidebar item on the Pathfinder plan and up) offers the same Save to game in its export dialogs.
- What you can do: pick a game, click Save to game, and the file lands in that game's Media tab (a print-and-play PDF is filed as Print & Play).
- Good to know: a saved file starts private. Share it from the game's Media tab when you want collaborators or the public catalog to see it.
Tips & common questions
Which category is a tool in? Each tool article in this collection says which chips list it. Several tools appear under two chips (Rounded Corners is in both Prototyping and Designing, for example).
I used to see a Probability Calculator. Where did it go? It is no longer on the Tools list or in the command palette. A direct link to it still opens the tool, but it is not part of the documented set.
Why can't I find Digital Mockups? Teams that have the newer 3D Mockups sidebar item no longer see Digital Mockups on the Tools page. See 3D Mockups. Other teams keep the card under Pre-production.
Can I hide tools I never use? Not yet. Pin the ones you do use so they sit at the top, and filter the rest with a category chip or a search.
Do tools cost extra? No. Everything on the Tools page comes with every plan while the subscription or trial is active.
