Last reviewed October 11, 2026
The Dice Roller covers the table when the right dice are missing. Build a pool from standard dice, add a modifier, or design your own die with symbols on its faces and keep it for next time.
What this page helps you do
- Roll any mix of d2 to d100.
- Type a dice expression such as
2d6+1d4+3. - Create custom dice with number, text or icon faces and save them to your account.
- Read back the last 30 rolls.
You'll start from Tools, under the Playtesting chip.
Open the tool
In the sidebar, open Tools, click Playtesting, then click Dice Roller.
Helpful details
- Key areas: a Standard Dice card, a Custom Dice card, a roll bar with the Roll button, and the Roll Log on the right.
- What you can do: mix standard and custom dice in the same roll.
- Good to know: the tool is listed under Playtesting only.
Build a pool of standard dice
In Standard Dice, click a die button (d2, d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, d20, d100) once per die you want.
Helpful details
- Key areas: a badge on each button counts the dice of that size. Chips under the tray ("3d6") have a minus button to remove one.
- What you can do: right-click a die button to remove one of that size. Use the Modifier field (with its minus and plus buttons) to add or subtract a fixed number.
- Good to know: the roll bar reads "Add dice to build your roll" until the pool has at least one die, then "N dice ready".
Roll
Click Roll (the button shows the dice count, for example Roll 4).
Helpful details
- Key areas: the result shows each die, the modifier and the total. Clear empties the pool.
- What you can do: roll again without rebuilding the pool.
- Good to know: every roll is a fair random pick per die.
Type an expression
In the box labelled "Type an expression, e.g. 2d6+1d4+3", write the roll and press Enter or click its Roll button.
Helpful details
- Key areas: terms like
2d6ord20add dice; plain numbers like+3or-1become the modifier. - What you can do: write
d20-1for a single die with a penalty, or3d6+2d8+5for a mixed pool. - Good to know: only dice terms and plus or minus numbers are understood. There are no exploding dice, rerolls or "drop the lowest" rules.
Create a custom die
In Custom Dice, click New die.
Helpful details
- Key areas: the New Custom Die dialog asks for a Name and a Color, then lists the faces. A new die starts with six faces numbered 1 to 6. Each face is a Number, a Text label, or an Icon (choose one with Pick an icon).
- What you can do: Add face for a d8 or d12, remove faces, or repeat a face to weight it. Click Save die. The die appears in the Custom Dice card: click it to add one to the pool, right-click (or the minus button) to take one out, and use the edit and delete buttons to change or remove it.
- Good to know: custom dice are saved to your account and come back the next time you open the tool, on any device. Only number faces count toward the total; text and icon faces show as symbols in the result.
Read the Roll Log
Every roll is added to the top of the Roll Log.
Helpful details
- Key areas: each entry shows the roll's name, the dice and the total. The log keeps the last 30 rolls.
- What you can do: click Clear to empty it.
- Good to know: the log is not saved. It clears when you reload the page.
Tips & common questions
Are the rolls random? Yes, each die is an even random pick. The animation does not influence the result.
Can other players see my rolls in a remote playtest? Share your screen on the call. For a shared table with dice everyone can roll, try the Virtual Table under Prototypes (beta, rolling out to teams on the Pathfinder plan and up).
Can I make a die with a 50% hit chance and a 50% miss chance? Yes. Make a custom die with six faces: three "Hit" and three "Miss" text faces, or two icons repeated.
Did my custom dice disappear? They are tied to your account, not the team. Sign in with the same account and they return.
