Game notes

Keep free-form design notes on a game in a side panel that saves as you type and stays private to your team.

Notes is the scratch pad of a game: ideas, decisions, playtest reflections and open questions that do not belong in the rulebook or the public description. It opens in a side panel from the game header and saves by itself.

What this page helps you do

  • Open the notes panel from any tab of the game.
  • Capture ideas without leaving what you were doing.
  • Know who can read the notes and where they do not appear.

You'll start from a game's page: click Notes in the header under the title.

Open and write notes

Click Notes in the game header. A panel slides in from the side with the heading Notes and the hint "Use this space to write down notes about your game." Start typing.

Helpful details

  • Key areas: the panel is a text editor with the same formatting tools as the Rules tab: headings, bold, lists, links.
  • What you can do: keep the panel open while you browse the Components or Media tab, and close it with the X or by clicking outside.
  • Good to know: notes save two seconds after you stop typing. A small "Saving.." then "Saved" message confirms it. There is no save button.

What to put in notes

A few patterns that work well:

  • Decision log: "v0.8: dropped the third resource; the mid-game was too heavy. Agreed with Jamie on 12 Apr."
  • Idea backlog: "Try a draft phase before scoring? Test in v0.10."
  • Post-playtest reflections: your own take after a session, next to the feedback playtesters left.
  • Open questions: bullets you tick off as you resolve them.

Helpful details

  • Key areas: notes are one document per game. Use headings to split it into sections you can scan.
  • What you can do: when a note turns into a real change, log it under Versions so the history stays clean. See Game versions.
  • Good to know: links to outside documents are easier to find on the External Resources card of the Game Info tab than buried in notes. See External resources.

Who sees the notes

Everyone who can open the game can read and edit its notes: Admins, Members, and Collaborators who were granted the game.

Helpful details

  • Key areas: notes never appear on your public catalog, in sell sheets or in the press kit.
  • What you can do: copy a game to another team with Copy to other account; the notes travel with it.
  • Good to know: there are no private, per-person notes. Anything you would not show a teammate belongs somewhere else.

Tips & common questions

Can I have several notes documents on one game? No, one per game. Split it with headings, or write a separate rule document in the Rules tab for things players should read.

Can I export my notes? Select the text and copy it into your own notes app. Notes are also included when you copy the game to another team.

Did my notes save? I closed the panel fast. Saving starts two seconds after your last keystroke. If you closed the panel sooner, open it again and check; retype what is missing.

Where should playtest feedback go? Into the playtest itself, so it stays attached to the session and the version tested. Use notes for your own conclusions. See Playtest hub.
