Quick start in 5 minutes

Three small steps to get past day one: create a game, try one tool, pick your next thing to come back for.

If Welcome to Boardssey told you what the app does, this page tells you what to do right now. Five minutes, three steps. You'll have a real game in Boardssey, you'll have tried a tool, and you'll know where to go next.

What this page helps you do

  • Get past the empty workspace on day one.

  • Make Boardssey feel useful in the first session.

  • Pick the right next thing to come back for.

1. Create a game (≈ 2 min)

In the sidebar, open Games and click New game.

You only need a name. A working title is fine, Castle Project, That coop idea, whatever. Pick a development status (Idea is the default) and click Start Designing. Your game now exists.

You're looking at the game page. It has tabs for components, media, rules, notes, versions, and more. Don't try to fill them all out now. Just write a one-sentence elevator pitch in the Short description field, hit Save game, and move on.

2. Try one tool (≈ 2 min)

Open Tools in the sidebar. Pick the one that matches what's in front of you today:

  • Designing a card and not sure if your colors work for everyone? → Color Blindness Simulator.

  • Have card art ready and want to print a prototype? → P&P Cards Layout.

  • Tweaking a card's stat balance? → Variables Distribution.

  • Want a 3D mockup of your box for a social post? → Mockups.

  • About to playtest? → Score Pad, Timer, or Starting Player.

Each tool is self-contained, open it, use it, leave. No setup, no saved state to manage.

3. Decide what to come back for (≈ 1 min)

Boardssey has a lot. The next time you log in, come back for one of these, depending on where your game is:

  • Still designing? Use the Whiteboard for sketching (Pathfinder/Oracle plans) and the Variables Distribution tool for balancing.

  • Have a draft ready to test? Open Playtests and set up a session. You can share a feedback form with playtesters who don't have a Boardssey account.

  • Game has shape, need to organize the work? Open Boards. Create a project board for the game and start adding tasks.

  • Ready to share? Build a Sell Sheet for the game (Pathfinder/Oracle plans) and turn on your Public catalog (any plan).

You don't need a plan or a roadmap. Just pick the most pressing one and click into it.

Tips & common questions

Should I read everything in the help center before I start? No. Open one article when you hit a question, not before. Most of the app is self-explanatory once you have a game open.

Do I need to set up my team workspace first? Not on day one. You can start solo and invite collaborators later. See How Boardssey is structured if you want the bigger picture before going further.

What if I get stuck? Click the chat bubble in the bottom-right of the app, that reaches the Boardssey team directly.
