Sell sheet editor walkthrough

Find your way around the Sell Sheet Designer: panels, game data keys, text and images, QR codes, saving, and PDF or PNG downloads.

Last reviewed October 11, 2026

The Sell Sheet Designer is a drag-and-drop canvas: pick a template, drop in your game's data, swap the art, and download a print-ready file. You do not need design experience, only a game worth pitching.

What this page helps you do

  • Find your way around the editor's panels.
  • Fill text from your game's data with template keys.
  • Add and edit text, images, shapes, QR codes and barcodes.
  • Save a sheet and let autosave take over.
  • Download the sheet as PDF, PNG, JPEG and other formats.

You'll start in the editor, after Start Designing on the Sell Sheets page or Open in Editor on an existing sheet.

Before you start

  • The designer needs the Pathfinder or Oracle plan and a Member or Admin role. See Sell sheets.
  • During a free trial, downloads are JPEG only, at a lower resolution and with a watermark.
  • Save the sheet once before you rely on autosave (see below).

The editor at a glance

The editor fills the window. A top bar holds Go back, the save button and the autosave status; the left side has a column of panel tabs; the canvas sits in the middle with a toolbar above it for the selected element.

Helpful details

  • Key areas: the panel tabs, top to bottom: Sell Sheets, Game Data, Text, Photos, Elements, Background, Layers, Codes and Resize.
  • What you can do: click any element on the canvas to edit it. The toolbar changes with the element: fonts and colors for text, crop and filters for images, fill and stroke for shapes.
  • Good to know: hold the space bar and drag to pan a zoomed-in canvas. Right-click an element for a menu with layering (to front, up, down, to back) and quick export.

Fill in your game's data

Open the Game Data panel. The game you chose is selected; its information and media are at hand.

Helpful details

  • Key areas: Template Keys such as {{game_title}}, {{short_description}}, {{players}}, {{duration}}, {{age}}, {{complexity}}, {{price}}, {{mechanisms}}, {{unique_hook_1}} to {{unique_hook_3}}, {{designer}}, {{artist}}, {{bgg_link}} and {{cover_url}}. Click a key to drop it on the canvas as a text element with the game's value.
  • What you can do: add your game's images from the panel's media tab, straight from the game's Media tab in Boardssey.
  • Good to know: a value placed on the sheet belongs to the sheet. Changing the game later does not update it; drop the key again or type the new text.

Edit text

Click a text element and type to replace it, or double-click to put the cursor inside. The Text panel adds new headings and paragraphs.

Helpful details

  • Key areas: the toolbar sets the font, size, color, alignment, line height and letter spacing, with effects such as shadow, stroke and a text background. Bold, italic, underline, lists and links work inside a text box.
  • What you can do: write in any language; pick a font that has the characters you need.
  • Good to know: when text no longer fits its box, the editor shrinks the font to fit. Resize the box to give it room again.

Add images, shapes and backgrounds

Use the Photos panel to upload your own images or search stock photos, Elements for shapes, lines and icons, and Background for the page color or a background image.

Helpful details

  • Key areas: image tools in the toolbar: Crop, Flip, filters (blur, brightness, sepia, grayscale), corner radius, border and shadow.
  • What you can do: drag an element to move it, drag a corner to resize, use the rotate handle to turn it. Group elements to move them together.
  • Good to know: the Layers panel lists every element so you can reorder, hide or lock them. A locked element cannot be moved by accident on the canvas.

Add QR codes and barcodes

Open the Codes panel.

Helpful details

  • Key areas: QR Code generates a code from any URL or text, for example your catalog's game page or a pitch video. Barcode draws a barcode from a number you type.
  • What you can do: select an existing code and update its content from the same panel.
  • Good to know: the barcode generator only draws the image. Use a number registered with an authorized body; made-up numbers cause trouble with retailers and distributors.

Change the page size

Open the Resize panel to pick a preset or type a width and height in your unit of choice.

Helpful details

  • Key areas: size presets, custom dimensions and Apply Bleed, which adds the extra margin printers trim off.
  • What you can do: switch a sheet between US Letter and A4 before you send it abroad.
  • Good to know: resizing moves elements with the page; check the layout afterwards.

Save and autosave

A new sheet is not saved until you save it once. Click Save Current in the top bar (or Save your first game sellsheet in the Sell Sheets panel). In the Save Sellsheet dialog, give it a Sellsheet Name, an optional Description and a Status, then click Save Sellsheet.

Helpful details

  • Key areas: after the first save, autosave takes over and the status next to the save button shows Saving..., Saved or Unsaved changes. The save button turns into Update Current when there are unsaved changes and Save As New when the current sheet is saved.
  • What you can do: use Save As New to keep a copy before a big change, or to make a retailer version from a publisher version.
  • Good to know: leaving the editor with unsaved work asks you to confirm. The Sell Sheets panel lists your saved sheets for the game so you can open or delete them without leaving the editor.

Download the sheet

Open the Sell Sheets panel and click Download. Under Download Options, pick a format and a quality.

Helpful details

  • Key areas: PDF, PNG, JPEG, HTML, SVG, JSON, GIF and MP4, with a quality slider up to 300 dpi for print.
  • What you can do: use PDF for printing and emailing, PNG or JPEG for a web page or social post, JSON to keep a backup of the design that you can load again.
  • Good to know: on a free trial the format is fixed to JPEG at a lower resolution with a watermark across the sheet. Blurry output usually means a small source image: use images with enough pixels for the size they print at.

Tips & common questions

Where is the share link? There is none. Download the sheet and send the file. To show it on your catalog, upload the PDF to the game's Media tab as a Sell Sheet with Public Sharing on.

Can two people edit the same sheet at the same time? No. The last save wins, so take turns.

Can I bring in my own design? Yes. Drag a JSON design you exported earlier, or a PDF, AI or PSD file, onto the canvas and it replaces the current design. Ctrl+Shift+, (Cmd+Shift+, on a Mac) opens a file picker for JSON.

I changed the game's hook. Why does the sheet still show the old one? Values are copied onto the sheet when you place them. Open the Game Data panel and drop the key again, or edit the text.

Can I make my own template? Save a finished design with No Specific Game and reuse it with Save As New for each game. There is no team template library.
