Starting Player

Pick who goes first with a random, silly condition such as "the player with the most pockets".

Last reviewed October 11, 2026

"Youngest player goes first" gets old. Starting Player draws a random condition instead: "The player who drives the smallest car is the Starting Player", "The player with the most colorful socks is the Starting Player". The table works out who it is.

What this page helps you do

  • Get a random starting-player condition with one click.
  • Draw another one when the first does not settle it.

You'll start from Tools, under the Playtesting chip.

Open the tool

In the sidebar, open Tools, click Playtesting, then click Starting Player.

Helpful details

  • Key areas: a large emoji, the condition in big text, and a Get New Condition button.
  • What you can do: a condition is drawn as soon as the page opens.
  • Good to know: the card is listed under Playtesting only.

Draw a condition

Read the condition out loud. If it ends in a tie or nobody qualifies, click Get New Condition.

Helpful details

  • Key areas: there are about fifty conditions, each with its own emoji: pockets, keys on a keychain, most recent coffee, longest name, best animal impression and so on.
  • What you can do: keep clicking until one works for your group.
  • Good to know: the conditions are translated, so the tool shows them in the language you use Boardssey in.

Tips & common questions

Can I type in the players' names? No. The tool does not keep a player list; it only draws the condition.

Can I pick a player purely at random instead? Give each player a number and roll a die in the Dice Roller, or flip the Coin Flipper for two players.

Can I add my own conditions? Not today. The list is fixed.

Does the same condition come up twice? It can, since each draw is random. Click again.
