Delete a game

Permanently remove a game, its projects, playtests and media from your team, and know what Boardssey keeps.

Deleting a game removes it and everything tied to it, including its projects and playtests. There is no undo. If you only want it out of the way, archive it instead.

What this page helps you do

  • Decide between deleting and archiving.
  • Delete a game from the library or from the Edit page.
  • Know exactly what is removed and what stays.

You'll start from the Games page in the sidebar, or from the game's Edit game page.

Before you start

  • Deleting needs the team's games permission: Admins and Members can delete. A Collaborator who tries sees an error, even on a game they were granted.
  • Consider the alternatives: Archive keeps everything and hides the game (Copy or archive a game); Copy to other account keeps a copy in another team before you delete.

Delete from the library

In the sidebar, click Games. Open the ⋮ menu on the game's card (Admins and owners only) and pick Delete. Type the title of the game where asked and click Delete.

Helpful details

  • Key areas: the dialog warns "This permanently deletes {title} and everything attached to it. This action cannot be undone." and asks "Type the title of the game to confirm".
  • What you can do: the title check stops a slip of the mouse from erasing a year of work. Copy the title exactly, including capitals.
  • Good to know: the game disappears from the library and the catalog at once.

Delete from the Edit page

Members do not see the card menu. Open the game, click Edit game, and scroll to the Danger Zone at the bottom. Under "What happens when you delete a game?" click Delete, type the title and confirm.

Helpful details

  • Key areas: the Danger Zone text reads "Deleting a game will delete the game and all the other items tied to it, such as Projects or Playtests. This action cannot be undone".
  • What you can do: read it as a checklist. If a project or playtest in that game matters, export or copy what you need first.
  • Good to know: deleting frees a slot toward your plan's game limit. Archiving does not.

What is deleted

Everything that belongs to the game:

  • Game details, cover, components, rules, notes, versions and external resources.
  • Media files, including public ones on your catalog.
  • Projects linked to the game, with their tasks and comments.
  • Playtests of the game and their feedback.
  • Outreach entries and their reminders, and sell sheets made for the game.
  • Milestones, the game's chat channel, the Files tab folder link, and Component Designer files linked to the game.
  • Catalog entries, translations and stats, and Collaborator grants.

If the game is a base game, its expansions stay as standalone games.

What stays

  • Invoices and purchase orders, spec sheets, 3D mockup scenes and virtual table rooms made for the game. They stay in their tools with the game field cleared.
  • Team-wide whiteboard pages, contacts, and your other games.

Tips & common questions

Can I undo a deletion? No. If you deleted the wrong game, contact support right away through the in-app chat. A restore from backups is sometimes possible within hours, never guaranteed. See Contact us.

A teammate deleted a game I was working on. Only Admins and Members can delete. Talk to them first, then contact support quickly if a restore is needed.

Will deleting affect my public catalog? Yes. The game vanishes from the catalog and any direct link to its page stops working.

Can I delete several games at once? No. Delete them one at a time. Filtering the library by status (for example Idea) helps you find old prototypes.

I want to keep the playtest data but not the game. Archive the game instead. Playtests belong to a game and are deleted with it.
