Receive messages from your catalog

Let visitors write to you from a catalog page, then read, reply to and file their messages in the Messages tab.

A publisher who likes a game on your catalog needs a way to reach you. Turn on the contact form on one of your pages and every message lands in your email and in the Messages tab of the catalog settings, where your whole team can see it.

What this page helps you do

  • Turn on the contact form on a catalog page.
  • Know what happens when a visitor sends a message.
  • Read, reply to and file messages in the Messages tab.
  • Add a sender to your Contacts.

You'll start from Catalog > Pages to set it up, then Catalog > Messages to read.

Before you start

  • Only Admins can edit pages, so an Admin turns the form on. Every Member and Admin can read messages.
  • Collaborators do not see the catalog settings or its messages.

Turn on the contact form

In the sidebar, click Catalog, open Pages and select the page (for example Contact). Turn on Contact form and enter an email address in Send messages to. Click Save.

Helpful details

  • Key areas: the form appears at the end of the page. Visitors see Send us a message with Name, Email, Company (optional) and Message, and a Send message button.
  • What you can do: add the form to several pages. Each message records which page it came from.
  • Good to know: the form has protections against bots. A visitor can send 5 messages per hour, and a team's catalogs take 200 messages a day in total; beyond that the form says "Too many messages in a short time."

What happens when someone writes

Three things happen at once.

Helpful details

  • Key areas: an email titled "New catalog message from {name}" goes to the address in Send messages to; reply to it and your answer goes straight to the visitor. The message is stored in the Messages tab. Every Member and Admin gets a bell notification "New message from your catalog" that opens the tab.
  • What you can do: choose whether Catalog messages show in your bell in your notification settings. See Notifications.
  • Good to know: the visitor sees "Thank you. We will reply to the email you gave." Boardssey does not send your reply; you answer from your own email.

Read and answer messages

Open Catalog > Messages. The tab shows an unread count. Click a message to open it; this marks it read for the whole team.

Helpful details

  • Key areas: each message shows From (name, email and company), the Page it came from, and the Catalog when your team has several. Actions: Reply (opens your email app with the subject "Re: {page}"), Add to contacts, Mark unread and, for Admins, Delete.
  • What you can do: use Mark unread to hand a message back to a teammate.
  • Good to know: the tab shows the last 200 messages. Delete removes the message for the whole team after a confirmation.

Add a sender to Contacts

Click Add to contacts on a message. A contact is created with the sender's name, email and company, and a note "Sent through the catalog contact form on {date}."

Helpful details

  • Key areas: the new contact appears in the sidebar's Contacts page.
  • What you can do: add a category and your own notes there. See Manage your contacts.
  • Good to know: if the email is already in your Contacts, the tab says "This sender is already in your contacts." and nothing is duplicated.

Tips & common questions

I got the email but the message is not in the tab. Reload the Catalog page. Both are written at the same time, so the tab only lags when it was open before the message arrived.

Can messages go to two addresses? Each page has one Send messages to address. Use a shared mailbox, or give each page (Contact, Submissions) a different address.

Does the visitor need an account? No. The form works for anyone on the public catalog.

Where do messages from a deleted catalog go? They stay in the Messages tab. Deleting a catalog keeps its messages.
